I spent approximately 45 minutes answering what I thought were intake questions with a physicians assistant. I opened up about my symptoms an thought that the doctor was standing by and would be in as soon as I was doon speaking with the P.A. After about an hour I was told that the medication that was appropriate for my accute situation could not be perscribed by the woman I was speaking with. I said, 'well isn't the doctor here?' At this point I was informed that the doctor was not it. It was a Friday and she would not be back in the office until monday. My situation was accute so I asked if the doctor could call in a prescription. The P.A. was unwilling to call Jill Schenk so the answer was no. By the time I was out of the office it was 1 hr and 1/2 I had spent there. I felt so frustrated that I was not informed that there was no doctor in the office prior to spending that much time that I contacted my blue cross provider to complain. Two weeks later i received a FINAL statement from blue cross saying that they had investigated and determined that I WAS informed prior to being seen that there was no doctor on site. They LIED. I was NOT informed until I had been there over an hour, AND I had stated the reason for my visit when I checked in - a serious condition they knew the P.A. could not treat. I was not informed and thought I was paying for and walking in to see a doctor. They are still sending me bills and charged a $200 or 250 new patient fee to blue cross - like i would ever go back! I actually never saw Jill Schenk. Maybe she is the best doctor in the U.S., but it stinks that she leaves her office open when she is not there and does not inform incoming patients that there is no doctor on site as they check in. It also is totally unethical and really bothers me that they/she lied to the investigators from blue cross. And honestly, in the letter they wrote they mentioned the medication and the tone sounded like I was a drug addict or something. That plays a large part in my frustration with this situationo. That their lie made me look like a drug addict to blue cross. The medication was klonopin. I was aware that this practice in physicians offices was occuring and was fairly common prior to my visit to Jill Schenks office. I am absolutely certain I was not informed prior to spending over an hour there that no doctor was on site.. I would have chosen to spend my time with a doctor capable of precribing medication sufficient to treat the accute symptoms I was experiencing at the time.
